Tip for the Winter

Frozen Pipe

If you have any pipes that run outside your home, and you live in a place that gets cold, make sure you turn the water off to those pipes. I came home for lunch today and heard water flowing through the pipes in the house. After a quick check of all faucets, showers and toilets, I went out back to find rushing water coming out of this pipe. The pipe is an extension from the spigot at the house to reach the edge of the deck. It also goes out underneath the yard. I ducked under the deck and turned off the water. I realized that nothing burst, but the joint just came loose. This will be easy to fix once the ice in the pipe thaws.
