Startled Awake in a Dream

I wake up sitting up in a chair. The lights flash around me. I'm buckled into an airplane seat. The flight attendants hand out bright yellow life vests to the passengers around me. I can't tell what is happening. I take my earbuds out. They were cancelling a lot of noise. It is very loud. Alarms are sounding. People are not quite screaming. It seems like the plane is going down over water. I think about what I will lose in the sea. I think about Deborah, who I may not see. I try to remain calm, but my heart is pounding.
