Yacht Rock

I was browsing music stations on Amazon and I came across one called Yacht Rock. Clicking on it only starts it, and doesn’t provide any description. Africa by Toto started playing. Rather than sit and listen to the music, I went searching for the meaning of the term. This category refers to soft rock from the 1970s and 80s. The name comes from a mockumentary series from 2005 that told mythical stories behind the scenes of the creation of this era’s biggest hits.

Episode number one was about how Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers came to write the band’s biggest hit, What a Fool Believes. Yes, I was big fan of the band, but all I could think of was that episode of What’s Happening where they bought fake Doobie Brothers concert tickets from a scalper.
