There used to be a billboard on the outskirts of Smithfield, NC that said “KKK Welcomes You to Smithfield.” This is the county seat of Johnston County. The activity buses of Johnston County carry the slogan “Fostering a Flame for Learning.” I can’t help but think of burning crosses when I read that.
