I opened all the windows in our new house to let the mountain breezes in and I was happy that all of the windows have screens. Our old house has no screens and I had taken all the screens off our previous house.
This reminded me of the screens in my childhood home. This was way before double-pane windows existed. You would slide the screen down in the summer and slide it back up in the winter, sliding down the storm window to keep the cold out. It was this second pane of glass that created some insulation.
