Same Tree, Different Tree

I looked out the front window before sunrise and there was a dark tree in the yard across the street. It has no detail. No highlights. No shadows. It is just a black silhouette of a tree.

When the sun comes up, there is a different tree standing in the exact same spot. It has the same outline, but I can see detail on the trunk, the color of the leaves. It catches some of the light from the sunrise, creating highlights across it.

It looks so different in the dark and in the light that it is hard to imagine that it is the same tree.
