Is This Goodbye?

As I was falling back asleep this morning, I was in the liminal space between consciousness and sleep. My mom called my name. Jeff, she said. It was in her normal, strong voice and not the way she speaks now. She said it again. This roused my brain as I tried to determine if this was real or not and when I tried to respond, I was awake. I was unable to ask her what she wanted without projecting my consciousness on the situation. Was she asking permission to say goodbye?
