Non-fiction books have gone in one direction quite a while ago. In fact, I am guilty of this trend. Authors create a short, simple title—sometimes even a single word—and modify it with a long, keyword-stuffed subtitle so people and search engines know what their book is about. Fiction writers have gone the other direction and all seem to use the same subtitle: A Novel. I saw a list of five new books coming out and all of them had titles that sounded like fiction and they were all qualified as a novel.
